Artist · Coffee Reader · Visual Storyteller
Nelly is an award-winning designer, creative director and performance artist whose professional life has centered on visual storytelling. Her work spans television branding, motion graphics, live sports presentation and independent art practice. That visual instinct is also what makes Turkish coffee reading interesting to her. A finished cup leaves behind an accidental composition of lines, shapes, figures, negative space and movement. Nelly approaches those marks the way an artist approaches an image: by looking, associating, questioning and telling a story.
Turkish coffee reading began for Nelly as a personal interest rather than a professional identity. What makes it fit naturally with her art practice is the visual problem at its center: every cup creates a one-time image that will never repeat. Instead of treating the cup as a fixed dictionary of symbols, Nelly can bring an artist's sensitivity to composition, shape, rhythm, resemblance and story. The reading becomes a conversation between what the grounds suggest, what the viewer notices and what meaning emerges in the moment.
After Turkish coffee is enjoyed, the cup is turned over and allowed to settle. When it is lifted, the remaining grounds create a unique field of marks along the walls and base of the cup. Nelly approaches that field visually. She looks for figures, direction, density, contrast, relationships between forms and the overall composition. The session is less about claiming certainty and more about using the cup as a catalyst for observation, association, storytelling and reflection.",
Across a long career in broadcast and entertainment design, Nelly has worked on visual identities, animation systems and on-air graphics for major television and sports brands. Her public portfolio includes creative direction and art direction across network rebrands and live sports presentation.
Her work has received Emmy and Promax recognition, reflecting a career built around communicating quickly and powerfully through images.
Nelly's artistic work extends beyond commercial design. She has described performance art and nature as spaces for reflection, transformation and social engagement. Her independent work has explored identity, memory, land, cultural history and the relationship between people and place.
She is also a co-founder of the She Loves Collective, an artist collective whose public performances and installations have addressed Armenian cultural memory and contemporary events.

The cup is temporary. The image disappears. The conversation is the artwork that remains.
